The online resource for NUJ London magazine journalists
NUJ members will be voting soon for a new general secretary. There are two candidates to take over the role held by Michelle Stanistreet for 14 years:
• LAURA DAVISON is a full-time national organiser at the NUJ
• NATASHA HIRST is a freelance photographer and the NUJ’s current president.
Both will be taking part in a hybrid hustings debate on Wednesday 18 September at 6.30pm.
The meeting is free and open to all NUJ members, wherever they live or work. It will take place at the NUJ head office in London and on Zoom. It is presented by the NUJ London Freelance and Magazine branches – the union itself does not organise hustings.
If you want to join the hustings in person, the address is Headland House, 72 Acton Street, London WC1X 9NB (closest station: King’s Cross St Pancras). Please register by emailing your name, email address and NUJ branch to chair@londonfreelance.org. Please register as there’s limited room capacity.
If you want to join online, please register by sending your name, email address and NUJ branch to email events@londonfreelance.org. A Zoom link will be sent on 17 September.
Whether joining by Zoom or from the NUJ head office, everyone attending will have the chance to put any questions to either candidate or both.
The NUJ matters for journalists working in UK media, and it matters who leads the union. We are a democratic body, and democracy depends on information – that is our job. All members are urged to vote and need to be well-informed to make the choice.
