Mayday greetings
This branch notes:
That trade unionists have traditionally sent greetings to workers in struggle on May Day – International Workers Day
That the Morning Star and Socialist Worker provide inexpensive space to union branches to send such greetings.
This branch resolves:

  • To pay for May Day greetings to be placed in the two newspapers at a total cost of up to £150.
  • And that our website is made a prominent feature in the Greeting.
Proposed: Adam Di Chiara
Seconded: Carole Shepherdson
This branch notes:
The very future of the NHS is threatened with huge cuts hitting services up and down the country with closure.
Private companies now run significant parts of our NHS for profit, and the 2011 Health and Social Care Act will accelerate that process further.
Massive opposition to the attacks with huge local protests against closures, including the 25,000 strong march in Lewisham in January.
The London wide coordinating group of NHS campaigns’ meeting earlier this month that called for a joint London-wide march on parliament on 18 May.
This branch believes:
A serious national campaign of action is urgently needed, backed by trade unions and the Labour Party.
This branch resolves:
  • To give maximum support for campaigns and strikes against NHS cuts and privatization.
  • Encourage members to join the 18 May demonstration.
Proposed: Caroline Price
This branch notes:
The four-week long series of occupations by students at Sussex University over the administrations plans to privatise and outsource services.
This branch believes the record of privatisation has seen a marked deterioration in services, wages slashed and workplace conditions lowered.
This branch agrees: To send a message of support to the occupation.
Proposed: Laura James
